Autobiographical memoir

Mother Earth and the Tapestry of My Roots

On the shores of Ke’e Beach, wounded trees reveal to him that roots survive by uniting. In this subterranean tapestry, he recognizes his own, intertwined with those of other peoples and other souls. Mother Earth calls him to understand that solidarity is a life force.

This book is for you if...

You are open to welcoming others

A true Québécois at heart, Jayyam shares stories and experiences with Irish people, Tamils, Indigenous peoples, and many others. Through these encounters, he invites us to cultivate inner openness and to question the preconceived notions and illusions that often shape our perception of others.

You have hope that you can overcome life’s challenges in YOUR own way.

Whether through parents and a cousin who faced hardships of every kind themselves, or through a university mentor gifted with the ability to awaken something within others, we often learn more from our own mistakes than from someone else's truth. Jayyam shares his own experiences and lessons learned—often with humour, and always with a great deal of love!

You feel that everything is interconnected.

Through Indigenous teachings, journeys to India, and the wisdom of Masters who crossed his path, this book explores the idea that it is we who belong to Mother Earth, not the other way around. It is up to us to recognize this truth and to take good care of her!

His meeting with Rogini, of Tamil heritage, and the synchronicity of two parallel spiritual paths.

How growing up alongside people with strong, spirited Irish roots helped shape the man Jayyam—a guy from Pointe-Saint-Charles—would become a real Pointer!

The wisdom of letting go in the face of life's events. Of loving yourself enough... to want to be in peace with you!

Book excerpt

The roots have stretched across the earth to meet each other, and they have intertwined. The forest roots have joined with those from the beach so these trees can continue to live. It was a living, vibrant tapestry, one I gradually recognized: my own roots intertwined with those of other peoples, other souls, in a spirit of benevolent reciprocity.

Our roots weave together to keep us alive

In Kauai, burned trees survived because their roots intertwined with those of other trees. Jayyam understood that our lives work the same way. This book tells the story of those bonds, family, cultural, and spiritual, that make us who we are.
